Part 3 of our “Vision Devos.”
Love God is simply worship. But simple doesn’t mean easy. In fact, simple is rarely easy. Especially when it comes to the arena of worship.
It took me a while to unlearn I thought (and was taught and modeled) was worship. Who knew that worship had very little to do with that special hour or so on Sunday morning where we sing weird songs and listen to some angry guy scream about God.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual act of worship. Paul in Romans 12:1
Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. Moses in Deuteronomy 6:5
This understanding of worship changes everything. To LOVE GOD is to worship is to LOVE GOD. My life rotates around what I love/worship. And I was made to love/worship. I was created for this action. All of us are. We love to love. We worship worship. And we all love/worship something – stuff, money, people, positions, places, sports, kids, cars, hobbies, ourselves.
Our lives rotate around what we worship. My time…my spending habits…my talents. I leverage these resources to either get more of what I love/worship or to further develop what I love/worship or to advance what I love/worship.
Yet only One thing satisfies eternally – God Himself. To love God is to live a life of worship for Him. Our time, our money, our talents are centered on Him and what He wants. We rotate our lives around Him.
He’s the center, not me. He’s the hero. He gets the last word. He determines the path. He writes the story. He paints the masterpiece.
And I get to enjoy it.
We want to make disciples who LOVE God.
