You’ve had this experience at least once in your life – the build up to Christmas. You get hints, you see the gift, you sneak in and shake the gift. You try to guess and see if you can get a hint from the giver as to what exactly the gift will be. Then on Christmas day – you get to unwrap that gift.
Sometimes that gift delivers on the expectation. Sometimes it doesn’t. Every now and then there is that gift that exceeds all expectations.
Jesus was one of those gifts – exceeds all expectations. And throughout the Old Testament, the Father left hints as to what kind of gift he was bringing to humanity. Join us as we explore these hints in some unique, fun, interactive ways.
You know why everyone loves John Wayne movies? (And if you don’t, you should.) Because he always played the guy, who despite his flaws, always tried to do the right thing. His characters had grit. The scriptures are full of these kinds of characters – David, Joshua, Peter. Characters that despite their flaws and failures had enough faith, enough grit to do the right thing at the right time. It seems that it is this kind of faith that God really enjoys molding and working with.
There are three examples of gritty faith found in the book of Ruth – Naomi, Ruth, and Boaz.
Discover what Gritty Faith looks like.
Salt of the Earth. Light of the World. ands of Jesus. Witnesses into all the world. Wise as snakes, gentle as doves.
Infiltrate. This was the model and mission of Jesus – infiltrate and change. It was his directive to his disciples. It’s still his directive to his Church today.
Infiltrate.
What does this mean? What does an infiltrating church look like? What does an infiltration Christ-follower look like? How does a church keep infiltrating and not become an institution?
The Art of Marriage: This marriage series will be radically different from other marriage series.
In fact, it will be unlike any other series we’ve ever done at Western Hills.
Join us each Sunday morning and then again each Sunday evening for the Night Sessions.
We call ourselves followers of Jesus.
We are a Church because we believe God has called us together to be a people who Love God, Live Connected and Serve All…
We agree on certain core beliefs…but what do we believe and why…?
What can a big blue-headed villain and riding a dragon teach us about family? You’d be surprised. Join us this summer for our 2011 Family Film Festival.
For 3 straight Saturdays in July, we will show the movie on the big screen in our Worship Center with FREE popcorn! The movie will start at 6:36 pm on the dot. We’ll have some inexpensive snacks available as well. Then on Sunday morning, we’ll take a look at a few key scenes and draw some biblical principles out of the film.
One Hit Wonders: In One Hit Wonder,s we will learn some basic Bible study principles using the books of Philemon, Jude, 2 John, and 3 John as our texts. Don’t worry, you’re not going to need to know Greek or be a rocket scientist to be able to do this. We’ll talk about what questions to ask of the Scriptures and what other resources are out there to he. Instead of that one hit song, each of these books has only one chapter. Meaning they are packed with meaning. Philemon… Jude… 2 John… 3 John …Each unique in its content and perspective. Each ridiculously short.
In The Meantime - We all live there. We are not who we were, not yet who we are supposed to be. We are not where we were, have yet to arrive where we are supposed to go. The temptation in these times is to fly through them thinking of them as a necessary evil or the long boring part before we get to the good stuff.
But it’s In The Meantime that God does some of His best work. He transforms us. Molds our character. Reveals more clearly who He really is. It’s In The Meantime where we experience life’s greatest challenges and experience God at a depth that we never thought possible.
In The Meantime is a look at Israel’s most important “Meantime” in their history – from slavery to a nation – and draw from that experience real life applications for us today.
Great Sex Series – It’s everywhere. Billboards. Music. Movies. Magazines. Television. Web. Facebook. Texts. Email. Sex.
The ads get racier, the lines of decency get pushed further. And the messages target a younger and younger audience every single year. And hardly any of it is good. God’s great, incredible gift to humanity is not just being tarnished, it’s being destroyed.
What’s really tragic about this is in a world looking for answers on GOODsex, God’s Word is hardly ever considered. That’s a shame. He created it and wrote an incredible owner’s manual about the subject. He’s been anything but silent about the topic of sex. It’s time we compared what we’ve heard about sex to what God knows about sex.
Noise - Can you hear God over all the noise in life?
This was exactly the question facing the participants in the Exodus story. Where was God? What was he saying? Could God really use a man like Moses? Could life actually get harder after obeying God? Why would God tell us to leave the security of Egypt for the unknown of the desert?
A look at the greatest story in the Old Testament and what it teaches us about hearing God’s voice
